Air Conditioning Service
At Carmasters Automotive in Norfolk, VA, we are here to help when you need an air conditioning service performed on your vehicle. Our shop uses state-of-the-art A/C machines, including a brand new one servicing R-1234yf vehicles, that will allow us to perform air conditioning services easier and much more accurately for both R1234yf and R134a vehicles. Additionally, both of our A/C machines are Hybrid Vehicle certified, so we can properly service your hybrid vehicle, too!
Our new R-1234yf A/C machine features the latest in automotive technology and is compatible to install the newest refrigerant in the industry - R-1234yf refrigerant. Currently, about 50% of all new model vehicles are using R-1234yf refrigerant. However, it is expected that 100% of newly manufactured vehicles will adopt using R-1234yf in the next few years.
We understand that R-1234yr refrigerant is becoming the new standard in the industry for new vehicles, which is why we have adapted to the change with our new machine. Our technicians are also properly trained and certified on this new refrigerant to ensure that your vehicle is properly serviced. However, we still offer comprehensive air conditioning services for vehicles using the R134a refrigerant.
The R-1234yf refrigerant is taking over the previous refrigerant because of its much lower effect on global warming. This new refrigerant is much more environmentally friendly and can help in the global fight to reduce pollution.
The old standard of refrigerant was the R-134a, which was actually originally a replacement for R-12. This refrigerant was phased out once it was determined to be very harmful to the Earth’s ozone layer. We now know that R-134a is also a big contributor to global warming, which is why it is now also being phased out and the new R-1234yf is replacing it. While R-1234yf and R-134a are actually similar in compound makeup, R-134a has a Global Warming Potential of 1300, while the new R-1234yf only has a GWP of less than 1.
The procedure for the R-1234yf refrigerant is more complicated due to how sophisticated the equipment is. Vehicles that are using R-1234yf have different service fittings than R-134a to prevent cross contamination. Here at our Norfolk air conditioning service shop, we use EPA approved equipment and our technicians are certified to buy and work with the R-1234yf.
